MGen Vice President for Development and Asset Management Chris Chua accepts the award from Habitat for Humanity Philippines representatives.
Atimonan One Energy, Inc. (A1E) has been recently recognized by two organizations for its community initiatives in Atimonan, Quezon — a testament of the company’s commitment to build a sustainable, progressive, and empowered community through its social development programs.
A1E on July 30 received an “Impact Builder Award” from Habitat for Humanity Philippines as a recognition for the company’s housing project in Barangay Villa Ibaba in Atimonan, Quezon.
Such distinction is given to companies who partnered with Habitat for Humanity and provided their support and commitment to building sustainable communities in the Philippines.
In 2017, A1E turned over 47 single-detached houses to the residents of Sitio Carinay, the nearest sitio in the plant site, as part of its New Carinay Housing Project. It also includes a chapel, basketball court, water tank, and a multi-purpose hall that are being used by the community for their activities.
A1E also collaborated with Habitat for Humanity in organizing the residents and creating a homeowners’ association, which was later registered to the Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board (HLURB).
Habitat for Humanity is an international non-government organization which focuses in providing decent places to live for Filipinos who need them.
First Quill for A1E
A1E was also named as one of the recipients of a Merit Award under the Community Relations Category during the 17th Philippine Quill Awards held last August 30.
The award, given by the International Association of Business Communicators, was for its information, education, and communication (IEC) campaign “Malayang Talakayan, Angat Kalaaman”.
“Malayang Talakayan, Angat Kaalaman” is a series of group discussions conducted to communicate the company’s project updates and its programs for the community. The campaign is implemented in partnership with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Dalaw-Turo Team and Atimonan Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO).
The Philippine Quill Awards is one of the country’s most prestigious awards program in the field of business communication. It recognizes excellent communication research, programs, skills, and creative work by companies and agencies in the country.
A1E is the developer of a 1,200- megawatt (MW) high efficiency, low emission (HELE) coal-fired power plant in Atimonan, Quezon Province. It is a subsidiary of MERALCO PowerGen Corporation (MGen), the power generation arm of Manila Electric Co. (MERALCO).
The company aims to create opportunities, strengthen local systems, and improve the lives of its stakeholders through the implementation of its corporate social responsibility programs and continuous partnership with the local government units.
